RESEARCH

At LIRM, we are more than researchers — we are visionaries dedicated to improving quality of life and building a healthier future for generations to come.

We are focused to understand the underlying mechanisms, develop effective treatments, and ultimately improve patient outcomes in the face of Aging, Neurodegeneration and Chronic inflammation.

Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) affects over 55 million people globally, a number expected to reach 139 million by 2050 due to aging populations

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects approximately 2.8 million people worldwide

Frontotemporal dementia

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), though rarer, remains a significant challenge, impacting 50,000–60,000 people in the United States alone

The anticipated rise in these diseases highlights the critical need for focused research to understand their underlying mechanisms, develop effective treatments, and ultimately improve patient outcomes in the face of this growing global health crisis.

We take a holistic and forward-thinking approach to tackling the challenges of neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases.

We take a holistic and forward-thinking approach to tackling the challenges of neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases.

Our approach emphasizes three critical areas:

1. Biology of neurodegeneration

Based on the most recent advances in research, we investigate potential solutions to counteract pathological processes driving neurodegenerative diseases development and progression.

2. Decline in Regenerative Capacity

Aging is accompanied by a reduced ability of the body to regenerate and repair itself. Our research encompasses areas such as stem cell biology to explore ways to restore or enhance the body's natural regenerative potential.

3. Diminished Immune System Function

The immune system's activity decreases with age, making individuals more susceptible to infections, chronic diseases, and immune dysregulation. We aim to identify strategies to counteract this decline and strengthen immune resilience.

By targeting these interconnected aspects, we aim at developing innovative therapies that address the root causes of aging, neurodegenerative diseases and chronic inflammation to ultimately improve health and quality of life during aging.
