Research assistant - Biomarker Discovery intern - 6 months Internship

Position Summary
We are looking for an intern to join us in our mission to develop blood-based biomarkers. As a Biomarker Discovery intern at the (LIRM), you will play a crucial role in our efforts to develop blood-based biomarkers that can accurately monitor the progression of neurodegenerative diseases and age-related cognitive decline. You will contribute to the development of novel assays and identification and validation of novel biomarkers that hold promise for early diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of disease progression. This position is 6-month internship open to people registered at the Swiss unemployment office as part of the BNF program.


Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Biological fluid analysis: Perform and optimize techniques to isolate analytes from blood.
  • 2. Assay Development: Develop and optimize assays for the detection and quantification of candidate biomarkers using various analytical techniques such as immunoassays, mass spectrometry, and next-generation sequencing.
  • 3. Data Analysis: Analyze experimental data using statistical methods to identify biomarker signatures associated with disease progression and treatment response.


Qualifications & Skills
  • Master's degree or PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field. 
  • Strong interest in biomarker research and translational medicine.
  • First experience in biochemistry or assay development is a plus.
  • Knowledge about scientific data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Rigourous mind with strong ability to generate accurate reports, document experiments and write SOPs.

Scientific Communication Manager - 6 months Internship

The Scientific Communication manager will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that effectively communicate the institute’s research, foster engagement with diverse stakeholders, and build a vibrant community around translational research for aging and chronic diseases. This role bridges science and society, ensuring that our work reaches high visibility to allow broad impact for people.This position is 6-month internship open to people registered at the Swiss unemployment office as part of the BNF program.


Key Responsibilities

  • Translate complex scientific findings into accessible, accurate content for diverse audiences (scientific community, healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public).
  • Generate educational content to foster awareness to public health issues linked to aging.
  • Develop and manage content for multiple platforms: website, newsletters, social media.
  • Prepare materials, including infographics, explainer videos and media briefings.
  • Monitor and evaluate KPI, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate with local and international media to promote the institute’s achievements and research.
  • Ensure consistency and clarity in messaging, aligned with the institute’s vision and values.


Qualifications & Skills
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Life Sciences, Public Health, Communication, or a related field.
  • Strong background in science communication, preferably with experience in biomedical or health research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (French is a plus)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools (social media platforms, content management systems, design tools).
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to build trust and foster connections across diverse groups. 

Desirable
  • PhD in a biomedical or health-related field.
  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific concepts into engaging, accessible narratives.
  • Experience working in research institutes, universities, or healthcare organizations.
  • Knowledge of aging research, chronic disease, or health policy landscapes.
  • Skills in multimedia content production (video, podcasting, graphic design).

This position is 6-month internship open to people registered at the Swiss unemployment office as part of the BNF program.


Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, pursue, and secure funding opportunities from philanthropic foundations, trusts, NGOs, and impact investors.
  • Design and manage innovative crowdfunding campaigns to support specific research programs and public engagement.
  • Build strategic alliances with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and healthcare organizations to foster joint projects and translational research.
  • Develop commercial opportunities related to hiPSC reprogramming, CRISPR-Cas9 applications, in vitrodisease modeling and hiPSC differentiation technologies.
  • Cultivate relationships with funders, partners, and external collaborators.
  • Collaborate closely with the scientific and communication leads to align fundraising strategies with research priorities.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Business Development, or related field.

  • Proactive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences.

Desirable
